The EA Bot, it is a Mall Assistant robot that was developed by the SPRW community and is currently deployed at the atrium of the Express Avenue, Chennai.

How does it works?

An 5 feet 5 inch robot who stands tall with an array of sensors dotting her structure. It employs an assortment of Ultrasonic sensors to give a 360° situational awareness. This helps in finding the way around the crowd of the visitors that throng the premises of the Express Avenue mall.

As EA Bot resides and helps visitors in the Central Atrium of the EA mall, the guidance system helps it navigate using advanced image processing of the mall.

Need of the upgrade ?

As the EA Bot is always surrounded by people specially Children's our community decided to make it the safest Robot to roam around and play with. Based on sensor inputs and complex navigation system the EA bot decides it path and moves on But what if in any case it becomes out of control and runs faster or do not stop as programmed.

Nobody wants to be in such a situation against a robot.

So what's the solution ?

After various rounds of discussions within the SPRW community finally a solution to add a "Automatic Kill Switch" to the EA Bot came up.

A after a lot of entries finally  a group of community members came together to implement this feature in the EA Bot.

Working on the solution !!

The project started in the month of June when seven community members namely Krishaanth R, Karthik V, Vikram C, Punith P, Niruthashwar M, Aparna J, Raahalya Roshini started there research work for finding the best way to complete and implement the project cost effectively in the EA Bot.

After consecutive webinar and guidance by SPRW mentors the team finally drafted the way to complete the project and within a month the project started taking a shape. From component selection to implementation the members did everything in very well coordinated way and finally in the month of August it was implemented after 8 weeks of dedicated work.

The concept of the Project

After complete understanding of the EA Bot the group came up with an innovative idea to check for the overload as if the robot goes out of control it will be moving fast and the current passing through the motors will be high. By measuring this current using the current sensor and a feedback circuit the group designed the complete circuit and it's up and live in the EA Bot.

What Next ?

The SPRW community has made the EA Bot as an open source platform and we are open to hear any suggestion to improve the Robot and any way possible. There are many such features and upgrades which are waiting to be implemented. One more upgrade process is already running in parallel which focuses on betterment of the complex algorithms and programming by using the Robot Operating System (ROS).

Many More ideas and upgrades are on the way.... Awaiting Yours!!!
