Are Robotics and Artificial Intelligence the Same Thing?

Some people Believe that the Artificial Intelligence (AI) is synonymous with Robotics!! But the truth is It’s NOT!!

People often get confused whether Artificial Intelligence is a subset of Robotics or is it the other way around. But the fact is that Robotics and Artificial Intelligence are completely different fields with one another.

WHAT IS ROBOTICS?

Robotics is a branch of technology which deals with robots. Robots are simply a programmable machine which can perform a series of actions by the instructions given by the commander. Robots can Interact with the physical world. We can picture the Robot having limbs and arms with sensors and actuators.

Robots may or may not be Autonomous. It is surprising that in order to define a Robot, Robotics involves Designing, Building and Programming Physical Robots. Only a small part of it involves Artificial Intelligence.

WHAT IS ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science. It is designed to replicate the human behaviour. It was all started when human attempted to create mechanical brains.

Human correlated the information and started to process the data and frame worked the concept of what constitutes AI.It is typically a spoon-feeding process at the beginning where AI gets the data from us and later it learns, starts to think on its own and finally take logical decisions. AI algorithms can tackle learning, perception, problem-solving, language-understanding and logical reasoning.

WHAT ARE ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENT ROBOTS?

Robotics as a simple definition is nothing but a Machine that takes in the input from us via programming and delivers the output as per the instruction is given by the commander. Whereas Artificial Intelligence is the ability to respond with Intelligence. When these two fields meet, they together form Artificial Intelligent Robots.

Artificial Intelligent Robot, which has the potential to look like Robots and perform the action with its intelligence.

Example:

Sophia” – a Humanoid Robot developed by Hong Kong-based company has the ability to process speech and have conversations using a Natural language. Sophia can even recognize individuals using facial recognition. She has been programmed with pre-written responses to specific questions or phrases just like chat-bot. Isn’t that interesting??

CONCLUSION:

As discussed, Robotics and Artificial Intelligence are two different fields. But it is always easy to start with Robotics which has the ability to make things interesting.

1. Creative thinking: Not many fields of studies integrate creativity and learning simultaneously. Here, Robotics achieves both. In fact, students love to engage in activities where they have full control. Robotics is a platform where learners are able to do cool stuff.

2. The efficient way to start coding: You will learn Embedded C, Python and other Programming Language. From building physical Robots, we can see what's going wrong and correct it. But in AI we can't interpret.

Robotics would be the best start to dive into AI. You can also learn Robotics now with SP Robotics Maker Lab, where you can build your own Robot from scratch and develop the potential to understand machine language. SP Robotic Works have around 40 + Maker Labs all around India to create talents. You can also join the club of SP Robotics Makers and start your journey with us!!!
